My Favourite Self Tanning Products

Hello! Where I live the sun has finally been shining and it feels like we are slowly but surely approaching summer. After the type of year this has been, I can’t wait until I can spend more time outside my house and in the fresh air. Not only will the fresh air feel great, but I also feel better with a little bit of a tan. However, as a kid, my mom also insisted (and probably forced) an often application of sunscreen. I have grown up avoiding too much sun and since then have tried my fair share of self tanners. These are my go to products I have been loving as of lately.

Not only do I love the look of a nice tan, but I always feel better with one. Now that the sun is starting to shine here and we can shed all the winter layers it is time for that tan! However, growing up I was always lathered in sunscreen…. something I probably hated at the time but looking back am so thankful for. My mom taught the importance of sun safety from a young age which I am so thankful for, but that also means very rarely do I have a ‘natural’ tan. Instead I go for a fake self tan – hello healthy skin and no sun damage or premature wrinkles. I have tried my fair share of self tanning products and I have rounded up my 3 go to products as of late. I like the combination to target different areas and to help keep up the tan with a little less work. Here they are!

Let’s start from the top! My favourite face tanner has to be Salty Face. It’s light, not sticky and I can even apply it under my makeup for a tan that develops during the day. It comes as a dropper form so for my face I use about 8 drops and then another 8 for the neck and chest. It seriously feels like its gonna last forever! I started using this in the fall and love it. Plus, it’s from a local BC shop.

My next go to product is the Fake Bake Flawless Darker Self-Tan Liquid. This is a fairly new product for me, but it’s my favourite body tanning product I’ve tried. I prefer the liquid as it dries super fast… this does mean you have to work in small sections though (ie. lower leg, then upper leg, etc). It also smells amazing! Nothing too strong and not your typical self-tan scent, just a nice light tropical scent. As you apply you’ll notice there is a colour in the product you see immediately so you know where you have applied it. I actually really like the colour it leaves before you shower, but when I find after showing it leaves the most beautiful streak-less glow! It you’ve used self-tanning products before you know the importance of a streak-less formula! With the spray bottle they include a mitt and a glove. I like to spray the mitt a couple of times and apply it in a circular motion.

Finally, I like the Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer in Medium to Tan. Now I know what you’re thinking but hear me out. Jergens was the first product I ever used for self-tanning and we have all seen in at the drugstore. Just to note, I have fairly light skin but do prefer the darker tone of Medium to Tan. This is the product I reach for when I don’t want to do a full tan application with the Fake Bake, and just need a little extra colour after a couple of days. I don’t find the smell too strong and I don’t have to shower after applying which means that I am able to extend my Fake Bake tan a little longer without an extra hassle.

What will be your go to tanning products this year? I’d love to hear!
