Hello!!
It has been a while since I have updated here. I am now officially a TEACHER! AND… I was hired by the local school district as a substitute teacher a couple of months ago. Working as a substitute teacher has been interesting. Everyday is something new which can be a little intimidating but is also exciting. I have taught everything from Home Economics in middle schools to Kindergarten. I have found that I have learned so much since working and being in different classrooms everyday. I have also been building a list going about things I really like about certain classes that I will eventually once I have my own class.
Over the past few months I have figured out a routine that works best for me and the students such as setting expectations with the students right away and trying my best to know their names. I like to keep things fun, and do my best to get through the material that the teacher has left for us, all while being responsive to the students… some days of course go better than others. One thing I always do is leave detailed notes at the end of the day. I have received feedback from some of the teachers and they really appreciate this. The template I created gives flexibility for whatever class I am in, but lays everything out so that it is concise and easy to follow. I include the most important parts in the reflection/notes section. I let the teacher know what we were or weren’t able to get done that day and any changes that may have occurred. Then, I list a couple of celebrations that happened that day, whether it be highlighting a couple of students, other staff members, or just great moments overall. Finally, I add in any important info the teacher needs to be aware of. In my district, teachers can request substitute teachers so I like to leave all my contact info and business card.
The template is available for FREE on my TPT…. Here is the link!
